The Indian Institute

of Tourism and Travel Management was established at New Delhi in 1983

Entrance Examination




Admission to the PGDTM

programme is made on the basis of overall performance in an aptitude

test held in the second week of May, Group discussion, and personal

interview. The test is conducted at Gwalior, Bhubaneshwar, New Delhi,

Chennai, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Patna, Mumbai, Kolkata and Jaipur.




IITTM accepts CAT scores

as well.





Pattern of examination

The written test consists

of sections on English ability, Quantitative ability, Reasoning and

Awareness of national and global issues. There are a total 200 questions

to be answered in 150 minutes. Wrong answers carry negative marks.

The Post Graduate Diploma

in Management (PGDM) with Travel and Tourism is accredited by AICTE

and travel sectors. The 12 months PGDTM is a full time course for graduates

from all disciplines. This programme trains young men and women for

taking up employment in business organizations or self employment and/or

carrying forward their family business.


IITTM also offers short-duration

programmes designed to provide state-of-the-art training to update working

executives whose formal education was completed some years ago. This

encompasses various areas focused on the synergy between the participant’s

personal growth and the organization’s development. The Institute

How to prepare for

the examination?





English: To prepare

for the vocabulary and English Usage section, you must increase your

knowledge of the English language. Try to focus on the general meaning

and structure of the sentence. Prepare from books by Thomas and Martinet,

Neffield, Wren and Martin. You could also study from ‘Objective English’

by Prasad, and ‘English is Easy’ by Chetan Anand. Do some exercises

of usage and comprehension from SAT by Barron.


QA and Reasoning: For

Mathematics, you could prepare from books by Krishna, R.D. Sharma and

objective Mathematics by Tata McGraw Hill publishers. You can brush

up your reasoning skills from Verbal and Non verbal Reasoning by R.S.

Agarwal and books by Edgar Thorpe.


General Knowledge:

Questions on General knowledge test your current awareness of situations

happening in India and around the world. Read the newspapers daily and

maintain a scrap book of major events. You could also brush up your

General Knowledge from current affairs magazines, Manorama or CSR yearbook.

The NIRD announces

its fourth fully residential one year Post Graduate Diploma in Rural

Development Management (PGDRDM) with an aim to create a committed and

competent cadre of Rural Development professionals in the country





The programme seeks

to impart management techniques that will enhance the understanding

of the paradigm and practice of rural development





Eligibility: Graduation

in any discipline from a recognized university, students who are in

the final year and expect to complete all the requirements of graduation

before 1st August, 2011 may also apply





Some seats are reserved

for the sponsored Indian in-service and international in-service candidates.

Indian in-service candidates should possess at least two years of work

experience in rural development and allied sectors, and are required

to apply through their employers. The international candidates should

apply through the Secretariats of AARDO, CIRDAP, etc

for international students are placed on the NIRD’s website





Selection process:

Selection of candidates/in-service candidates will be made through a

process of all India entrance test which will test the verbal, quantitative

and analytical competencies of the students including written English

language skills





Group discussion and

personal interviews will be conducted for the short-listed candidates.

However, a separate merit list will be prepared for the in-service candidates





Entrance test: The

entrance test will be conducted on 06th February, 2011 at following

Seat registration fee:

Upon selection, a non-refundable seat registration fee of Rs 16,000/-

Scholarships: Merit

and need based scholarships will be made available to deserving Indian

students. The north eastern council, Shillong, has fully funded the

north eastern students selected for the PGDRDM in the past. Similar

financial support to the admitted students domiciled in the North eastern

region is likely for the current year as well. Study loans will also

be facilitated by the NIRD for the needy Indian students





Reservation: Reservations

for the students of the SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) and persons with

disability (PwD) will be made as per govt of India’s policies





Placement: NIRD will

endeavour to make placements on successful completion of the PGDRDM,

but does not guarantee. However, all the students of the previous batches

of the PGDRDM were placed. The same trend is expected this year as well

Research fellowship:

committee constituted by director IIST. Based on the review, the fellowship

amount may be enhanced to Rs 18000/Rs 20000 respectively





No tuition/registration

fee is payable by the Ph.D scholars. However, the scholars will have

to pay for the services provided by the Institute like boarding/lodging/medical

facilities etc, as per IIST rules





Selection procedure:

Selection will be based on a written test followed by an interview





Candidates will be

short-listed based on academic records and other relevant criteria like

research experience, national eligibility tests, etc





All short-listed candidates

will be required to appear for a written test in their relevant areas

(aerospace engineering/mechanical engineering/electrical engineering/computer

science/control system/physics/chemistry/polymer technology/mathematics/

atmospheric sciences/remote sensing)





Written test of two

hours duration will be conducted at IIST, Trivandrum during 3rd-4th

week of December 2010. The written test will aim to evaluate the basic

understanding of the relevant subject area. The test may contain both

descriptive and objective questions. Candidates qualified in the written

test will be required to appear for an interview the following day

the PGPs. The admission requires two sequential online processes. Interested

candidates are required to (1) apply online to take the XLRI Admissions

Test (XAT) and (2) apply online to XLRI for the FPM.





Instead of taking the

XAT, FPM candidates can also submit GMAT/ GRE/ GATE/ UGC JRF (research)

results taken during the year January 2009 and December 2010. Those

who have done their PGP from XLRI, any IIM, MDI Gurgaon, FMS Delhi or

XIM Bhubaneswar, with a CQPI of at least 6.00/8.00 or equivalent will

also be exempted from appearing in the XAT. Those who wish not to take

The Main aim of the course is to develop a pool of technically trained

manpower readily available for recruitment of the Indian Power Sector.

ABOUT THE COURSE :

The course is of one year duration (2 Semesters) and covers various

aspects of Operation & Maintenance of Thermal Power Plants. Formal

coaching shall be held at Regional Institute of NPTI, located at Badarpur,

New Delhi. On-job training is conducted at the nearby Power Stations.

The course authorises the Diploma Holders to operate or undertake maintenance

of any part or whole of generating station of capacity 100 MW and above

together with the associated substation.





ELIGIBILITY : Three

years Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical/ control & Instrumentation

or equivalent. Graduate engineers are not eligible. (Engineering or

equivalent from a recognized technical board of the state with minimum

of 60% marks with I class/) Grade).
