The Centre offers summer fellowships for two months to bright undergraduate and MSc students (renewable for a second year for selected students). This programme has proved to be popular and competitive; each year, about 5000 students from all over India apply for the 120 fellowships awarded. Fifty fellowships are supported by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, fifteen by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, New Delhi, and the rest by the Centre. Students are placed with research groups at the Centre or with scientists else where in India. They are paid travel expenses and a monthly stipend of Rs. 5000. Selected students get the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research, and several summer projects have led to publications in leading journals. A random sample of projects pursued in past years is: Preparation of La0.5Sr0.5Co03 by Sol-Gel spin coating method; Study of correlated response to selection on faster development and early reproduction in Drosophila melanogaster; A study of the chaotic nature of flow in the neighborhood of vortices; Statistical analysis of fatal mining accidents in eight companies of Coal India Ltd. Many of the summer students of past years have gone on to pursue graduate studies and a research career, at the JNCASR or at another leading university.

Research Areas

 

Life Sciences: Infectious and non-infectious diseases, bioinformatics, developmental biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, life-history evolution, immunology, circadian biology, animal behaviour, behavioural ecology, evolutionary genetics, experimental evolution, chronobiology, behavior.

Material Sciences: Including Nano Sciences, energy and green materials.

Chemical Sciences: Solid state chemistry, theoretical/computational chemistry, inorganic, physical, organic chemistry.

Physical Sciences:Condensed matter theory and experiment, statistical physics, semiconductor materials physics, biophysics, nano physics, polymer physics, organic electronics, computational material science, soft matter.

Engineering Sciences:Theoretical and computational fluid dynamics, flow of complex fluids, granular media, experimental fluid mechanics, thermal science, chemical engineering and physical metallurgy, non-linear dynamics including planetary dynamics.

Mathematics: Fundamental Groups, Simplicial Homology and Triangulations.

Atmospheric Sciences:Atmospheric boundary layer, near-surface environment, radiation, solar-terrestrial relations, monsoon dynamics, modelling.

 

Eligibility for applying:

Academic requirements: * Students who have secured not less than 80% (science and maths subjects only) in their 10th , 12th(10 +2) and not less than first class in graduation and post graduation(if applicable).

Only students presently studying in I and II  year of B.Sc., I, II and III year of B.E / B.Tech. / B.V.Sc./ MBBS / B.Pharm., I year of M.Sc. and I - IV year of Integrated M.Sc with the above mentioned academic requirements should apply.

The students selected under this programme are placed with scientists at the Centre or elsewhere in India, for 2 months with a stipend of Rs. 5000 /- p.m and travel support as per Govt. of India norms.

Additional guidelines for Summer Fellows placed in the JNCASR ONLY.

All summer students should inform the JNCASR well in advance about the exact duration of their visit. The Fellowships section will then request the appropriate authority for accommodation, and let the Fellow know where he/she will be staying.

In special cases where a student needs to visit the Centre for a period in addition to that covered by the Fellowship, the guide may send in a request to this effect. The Centre will try to make their stay possible and fruitful. It is important that such students should inform the Fellowships section about the exact dates of their stay well in advance. Only students who receive an e-mail confirmation of accommodation being reserved for them can expect to be housed by the Centre. The student should carry money required for security deposit.

PGPPM Admissions 2010-12

IIMB invites applications to Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy & Management (PGPPM)

Initiated by the Government of India and UNDP in the year 2002, the PGPPM was conceived as a pioneering programme in public policy. This programme presents an innovative and socially relevant approach to public policy, besides integrating policy design and strategic management required for design and implementation of projects. This is a two-year Masters programme meant for civil servants so as to strengthen their managerial skills and prepare them for new challenges. 

 

The curriculum comprises course work and dissertation. Core courses are supplemented by electives, offered during the fourth and fifth terms. On successful completion of these courses, participants would work on their dissertation. The programme leads to the award of the Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Management by IIMB.

Students with Master degree in basic sciences, e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics will be admitted for Doctoral Programme under the guidance of faculty members of NISER.

The students will be required to take 6 courses (or more depending on counseling). They will also be required to take qualifying written and oral comprehensive tests and candidacy examinations before submitting the thesis. The thesis will be examined by external reviewers. Guidelines for the Fellowship Programme to B.Tech/B.E/MBA students 2009(Online Registration)

 

 

 

 

Admission criteria for the Post Graduate Program in Management: 2010 - 2012

 

I) Eligibility for CAT based applicants

A candidate must be an Indian national holding a full time Bachelor's Degree (of at least 3 years duration), with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST) or Persons with Disability (PWD) category] from a recognized university.

In case a candidate has been awarded grades / CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence would be based on the equivalence certified by the university / institution from where they have obtained bachelor's degree. In case the university / institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by the IIMs by dividing obtained CGPA with the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant with 100.

Selection Process

Candidates seeking admission to the two-year PGP of IIM Indore have to purchase the CAT 2009 vouchers from the nearest designated Axis Bank branch and register themselves on the www.catiim.in  website during the period 9 September – 1 October, 2009. More specific details could be obtained from www.catiim.in  website.

Candidates seeking admission to the two-year PGP of IIM Indore have to appear in the Common Admission Test [CAT] as described in the CAT advertisement, which shall be published in leading news papers during the end of August 2009. CAT 2009 shall be conducted during November 28 – December 7, 2009.

Candidates short-listed for group discussion and/or interview will be intimated usually by the end of January. Individual regret letters are not sent to applicants who are not called for group discussion and interview. IIM Indore conducts admission interviews in Bangalore, Indore, Kolkata, Mumbai, and New Delhi only. However, IIM Indore reserves the right to change the centers at any time if the situation so warrants.

Admission Criteria

Candidates are short-listed for Group Discussion and/or Personal Interview on the basis of their performance in CAT/GMAT, academic record, and relevant work experience. Final selection to the PGP would be based on criteria, such as the candidate's academic record, scholastic achievements, relevant work experience, and performance in CAT/GMAT, group discussion, and personal interview. However, IIM Indore reserves the right to change the criteria at its discretion.

Reservations

As per Government of India requirement, 15% per cent and 7.5% of the total seats are reserved for scheduled caste (SC) and scheduled tribe (ST) candidates respectively meeting IIMI's admission requirements; 27% seats are reserved for other backward classes - non creamy layer (OBC-NC) candidates meeting IIMI's admission requirements. In addition, 3% seats are reserved for persons with disabilities (as per the provisions of Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995) meeting IIMI's admission requirements. The three categories of disabilities are: (a) low-vision/blindness, b) hearing impairment, and c) locomotor disability/cerebral palsy.

Scholarships
The PGP Office of IIM Indore shall provide details on scholarships administered by IIM Indore to all finally admitted candidates.

 

II) Eligibility for GMAT based applicants

Admission Procedures for International (Foreign Nationals/ NRIs) Applicants

Candidates such as i) Persons who are permanent citizens of a country other than India and residing outside India and ii) Non-Resident Indians who are not in India during CAT 2009 shall be considered as 'International Applicants'.

Such candidates must hold a full time Bachelor's Degree (of at least 3 years duration), with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent and also preferably have two years of full-time work experience after graduation.

Selection Process

A foreign/ NRI applicant, seeking admission to two year PGP of IIM Indore can take GMAT in the country of his/ her residence and apply for admission in the prescribed application form, which can be downloaded from our website during October-November period every year. The GMAT scores should not be older than two calendar years at the time of applying. The scores of the GMAT taken during January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2009 will only be considered for processing. The last date for receipt of complete application packet is January 15, 2010 for the programme commencing June/July 2010.

For such applicants, the application packet must include the following materials:

a) Completed Application Form [Download Form]

b) A copy of the latest GMAT scores (original to be verified at the time of admission, if selected) duly attested.

c) A copy of the latest TOEFL score, if the medium of instruction has not been English (original to be verified at the time of admission, if selected) duly attested.

d) Three letters of recommendation from a competent authority (Teacher/Employer). [Download Form]

e) A Statement of Purpose [Download Form]

f) Attested photocopy of Passport

g) A non-refundable application-processing fee of US $ 200 (drawn in favour of Indian Institute of Management, Indore and payable at Indore)

A foreign/ NRI applicant who is residing in India during the period of admission process will have to take the Common Admission Test (CAT).
