Front End Web developer with a strong focus on Javascript – San Francisco, CA

Members of the Front End Development team are expected to create valid and standards-compliant code that focuses on delivering the best possible user experience to all of our customers.

Minimum Technical Qualifications
• HTML, XHTML, and CSS – Candidate must be able to hand-code to standards without error. Candidate also must possess a deep understanding of keeping code, content, and presentation separated.
• Object-oriented JavaScript Programming – Candidate’s experience must include class creation, object instantiation and inheritance. Candidate should also have extensive experience with JavaScript frameworks, preferably YUI or Ext JS.
• Cross-Browser Support – Candidate must have experience building web applications that support an array of web browsers (Internet Explorer 6, 7 & 8; Firefox; Safari)
• Web Accessibility – Candidate must have thorough knowledge of building web applications that meet Accessibility standards. Experience with WCAG 1.0 and Section 508 are a requirement. Knowledge of WCAG 2.0 and ARIA are a plus.
• Java Server Pages – Candidate must have experience developing dynamic web applications in a JSP environment. Candidate must understand the best practices that allow for a clean separation of presentation layer markup and style from the business logic of an application. Experience building custom tag libraries is a plus.

Required Skills
• Strong communication – A large part of the candidate’s role will be to effectively communicate the importance of standards and best practices to both technical (web application development teams) and non-technical (project management) audiences.
• Strong teamwork – The candidate will be expected to contribute to frameworks and code libraries that we use to standardize our code deliverables. As such the candidate must be able to work closely with other contributors to ensure that their code contributions meet team standards.

We are seeking a talented Server Engineer who has provided production server support in a high traffic, consumer web environment.

Responsibilities:

Ensure production servers are supported (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP and Java)

•Working on our website, platform, facebook app and API
•Building and integrating new components and modules into our site
•Server configuration and task automation via server side scripts
•Modifications and improvements to existing site and platform

Requirements in more detail:

•Expert-level PHP (advanced OOP)
•Expert-level JavaScript
•Expert-level tableless CSS layout
•Hand-coded standards-compliant HTML
•Expert-level knowledge of cross-browser, cross-platform compatibility and design constraints
•Basic Photoshop experience to whip up a button or cut up a design is a good skill to have but you are not a designer, we have those already
•Ability to write clean, coherent, well-documented code and to follow established coding style guidelines
•Excellent verbal and written skills, with proven ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise way
•Knowledge of Memcached, GD, AWS, Sphinx, Linux server administration, pound, actionscript3, facebook, open social and analytics/user-x is advantageous
